Accepting Yourself in Totality

We are space. We are skin and bones. We are infinite. We are whole. Right now.

How do we come to know the whole mosaic of ourselves?

As humans, we tend to fragment, segregate, and break down into understandable and easy-to-digest chunks of our experience. We are either this or that. We are either happy or sad. We are either good or bad. We are either free or shackled. Until we realize that….

We can be both bold and soft around the edges,

Fierce and intimidated.

Sad and irrationally hopeful.

We can have our hearts cracked wide open, bleeding into the rivers of our veins, and still stand at the bank of the flow with two feet on the ground and our head to the sun.

We are allowed to be both completely confused and clear-seeing through the lens of reality.

We can be both disciplined and FREE to move in a way that our bodies yearn for.

We do not have to choose between A or B.

We don’t have to fit into box C or box D.

We always have the option to choose ALL OF THE ABOVE.

To CHOOSE IT ALL.

The mind - the ego - likes to have complete control over the whole human situation. When attached to this way of experiencing life, we leave out SO MUCH. We feel fragmented and torn. We will fight to the end to wrangle our “identity” into a neat and acceptable form. Any outliers, any part of our being that doesn’t fit into this concept is laid out to starve under the light of the moon. We have our bone of despair thrown out with the morning trash. Our aggressive fist is chopped up and fed to the wolves.

When we take parts of our Being, our essence, and extricate it from the whole, we do the very thing we were trying to avoid: We become fragmented. We deem certain aspects as “wrong” or “unacceptable” and smother them with hate and shame and guilt.

What is so terrible about the fierce protector in you? She is there to keep you safe.

What is so unbearable about the child inside of you that needs comfort and love? She is there to open your heart.

What is so outlandish about the terrified human with her hairs standing up on high alert? She is there to guide you.

Why would we alienate the depths of sadness? These days of greeting the darkness allow us to come to understand the light.

When we are a Being of constant transition, a fluid, moving, twisting, turning state of existence, trying to hold ourselves to this impossible and unattainable state of constant, it is a waste of our precious energy. Not to mention the judgements that we tend to layer on top of it all. We create wall after wall around our natural state until we end up standing in a 2 X 4, smothered and zapped and hating on ourselves, big time.

The thing that we need to remember… especially during those times when we are caught in the throws of self-doubt and self-criticism is that:

The fragmented you is the whole you.
